It was the question on everyone’s lips when the Oarsome Foursome, four years after claiming gold, set out to defend their place at the top of the podium in Atlanta in 1996. Andrew Cooper, Nick Green, Mike McKay and James Tomkins became household names when they beat the USA in the men’s coxless four at the 1992 Olympics. But then Cooper decided to retire in 1995. It was a bombshell that rocked the boat and their hopes were sinking fast. In stepped Drew Ginn. At just 21, he helped the Oarsome Foursome overcome a slow start to surge home for gold, stamping their status as legends of Australian sport.
