Australia’s young synchronised swimmers, Nikita Pablo and Rose Stackpole, looked happy and wonderful as they performed their duet free and technical routines at the Rio Olympics. I was delighted to be in the stand to cheer for them and like their families also present, wave the team t-shirt.
As an honorary synchronised swimming team member, I was so touched to see my fellow team members happily wave to me in the large audience after their duet performance at the pool – I will remember this always.
Although Australia didn’t progress to the duet finals they trained very hard, and I am very proud of them. Few know, that only 34 synchronised swimmers have been at a sufficient competition level to qualify for the Olympics from Australia, and we’re proud to say, 9 of these 34 were in our Rio Olympic team, 8 of whom attending their first Olympics. An incredible effort from these young girls.
Thank you for the synchronsied swimming team for visiting me in the stand after your competition – I was very delighted to see you.
