Tensions flared in the NSW Liberal Party room this week as Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane locked horns with one of her MPs over gun policy.
The Liberals and Nationals are desperately trying to find common ground on guns, with emotions boiling over at the Monday meeting.
The sticking point relates to whether there should be a cap on the number of guns owned by city-based recreational hunters.
The Liberals want a moratorium, which means recreational hunters could keep the guns they own but not add new ones.
The Nationals are opposing the caps, wanting to instead focus on the removal of guns from terrorists.
Sloane was updating the Liberals on the policy discussions when sources said opposition special minister of state spokesman Alister Henskens took issue at the lack of consultation with frontbenchers.
“It was a terse exchange,” one source said.
Another source who also claimed Henskens had raised concerns about the consultation process claimed Sloane fired back with words to the effect of “that’s why we’re having a party room meeting”.
“She said something like the people that needed to be consulted were consulted,” the source said.
“Alister denied he was having a go at her.”
