The 2026 Hancock Prospecting WA Age & Open Short Course Championships came to a close on Sunday with another day of record-breaking performances at the Perth HPC, led by Brielle Dredge (Kwinana, c: Clark Carlson).
Dredge was the standout performer of the final day, breaking multiple WA records across the women’s 200m and 50m breaststroke events while adding two more individual titles to her haul from the weekend.
Dredge delivered the swim of the women’s session in the 200m breaststroke, clocking 2:26.37 to take the title ahead of Hale Aquatics’ Ciara Conroy (2:28.28) and Southside Penrhos Wesley’s Lexi Wright (2:31.51).
The swim saw Dredge break multiple WA records across the 16-, 17- and 18-year-old age groups, including the previous 16-year-old WA record of 2:28.14, set by Rachel Harris in 1995.
Dredge returned later in the session to win the women’s 50m breaststroke in 31.04, again breaking multiple age-group records. Her swim broke the previous 16-, 17- and 18-year-old WA marks, including the 2019 record of 31.88 held by Crystal Edwards.
The Kwinana swimmer finishes the championships with a strong collection of results, having also won the women’s 100m breaststroke and 200m IM on Day 2.
Daniel Boshart (Highlanders, c: Ryan Steenkamp) produced a record-breaking swim in the men’s 100m butterfly, stopping the clock in 51.54 to win ahead of Sean Alcorn (53.23) and Nicholas Swiericzuk (53.97).
Boshart’s swim broke his own WA Residential Record of 51.58, set earlier this year.
The 21-year-old was then part of Highlanders’ winning men’s 4x100m freestyle relay alongside Ashton Brinkworth, Jackson Anderson and Flynn Carroll, as the team combined for a time of 3:14.65.
Nicholas Swiericzuk (Southside Penrhos Wesley, c: Nick Watkins) also swam a record-breaking swim in the men’s 100m butterfly, clocking 53.97 for third.
Swiericzuk’s performance broke three records in the 16-year-old age group, previously held by Damien Badenhorst from 2020.
Joshua Yong (Highlanders/WAIS) competed in the men’s 200m breaststroke to touch at a winning time of 2:08.74.
Yong finished comfortably ahead of Breakers’ Jesse Whyte (2:22.69) and George Labang (2:23.52), adding another breaststroke title to his weekend.
Yong also won the men’s 50m breaststroke in 26.61, breaking his own WA All-Comers and WA Residential Records (26.82) set in 2024.
In the age-group races, Aaden Kettle (Guildford Kalamunda, c: Craig Murray) broke the 15-year-old WA All-Comers and WA Residential records in the 50m breaststroke, taking down records previously held by Tommy Sucipto.
Tex Cross (Highlanders/WAIS, c: Ryan Steenkamp) opened the final day with victory in the men’s 800m freestyle, clocking 7:44.86 to finish well clear of Robert Bonsall (8:05.75), Olly Browne (8:20.83) and Benjamin Manning (8:23.03).
Cross’ swim was just under six seconds outside Alec Mander’s WA All-Time Record of 7:38.94.
Mander later finished second to Bonsall in the men’s 400m IM, with Bonsall taking the title in 4:21.64 and Mander touching in 4:22.77.
Jemma Apps (UWA West Coast, c: Rob Palfery) added another distance freestyle title to her weekend, winning the women’s 800m freestyle in 8:57.71.
Apps finished ahead of South Lake Dolphins’ Edie Jackson (9:09.62) and UWA West Coast teammate Lua Wilson (9:17.16).
After winning the women’s 1500m freestyle on Day 1, Apps leaves the championships with wins in both of the women’s distance events.
UWA West Coast Swimming Club won the Short Course Metro Club Champions Perpetual Shield with 1,314 points. Highlanders finished second on 833 points, followed by Hale Aquatics on 719.
Busselton Swimming Club claimed the Short Course Country Club Champions Perpetual Shield with 300 points, ahead of Mandurah (189) and Australind (168).

Jacob Hale (Riverton Aquanauts) won the men’s 50m backstroke in 24.93, narrowly holding off Thomas Prowton (24.98) and Sam Carmignani (25.51).
Alyssa Burgess (Highlanders) continued her strong championships with victory in the women’s 50m backstroke in 27.61, ahead of Eloise Sheldrick (28.67) and Zara Kellow (29.24).
Mila Reyes (Hale Aquatics) won the women’s 400m IM in 4:58.28, with Kate Wallington second in 5:03.57 and Lara Green third in 5:11.15.
Alec Mander (Southside Penrhos Wesley) won the men’s 200m freestyle in 1:45.50, ahead of Lucas Fackerell (1:47.32) and Sean Alcorn (1:50.11).
Lian Bewsher (Westside Christ Church) took the women’s 200m freestyle in 2:01.35, narrowly ahead of Delta Cross (2:01.80) and Eloise Sheldrick (2:01.92).
Zachary McCamley (UWA West Coast) continued his strong multi-class meet with victory in the men’s 100m breaststroke multi-class in 1:21.30.
Jordan Berryman (UWA West Coast) won the women’s 100m backstroke multi-class in 1:33.83 and the women’s 50m freestyle multi-class in 37.26.
Kate Wallington (City of Perth) won the women’s 200m freestyle multi-class in 2:11.42.
Highlanders closed the meet with victory in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, with Delta Cross, Anzu Haywood, Zaylee Sanders and Alyssa Burgess combining for 3:51.32. UWA West Coast finished second in 3:54.54, with Fenix third in 4:01.51.
