Donation to help vets applauded

The queen of Australian philanthropy, Gina Rinehart, has again embarrassed federal and state governments with her latest timely $200m donation to our less fortunate veterans (“Gina’s $200m veteran pledge”, DT, 24/4).

Rinehart has a unique ability to recognise worthy recipients of her generosity.

On the eve of Anzac Day memorial services throughout the nation, the mining magnate has pledged the funds to assist “emergency accommodation for homeless veterans and war heroes” after the number impacted (6000) “shocked” her.

Rinehart’s benevolence often goes unreported when she identifies a cause worth supporting and donates some of her wealth. Whether it is the vets or Olympic athletes like our Dolphins swimming team, Rinehart seeks little recognition, accepting instead intrinsic reward.

Unfortunately there are some in the community not impressed with Australia’s richest person’s selfless contributions, simply as she is aligned with the mining industry, which to the illinformed, is the ‘devil’.

More fools them.
