School backflip, but attack on Gina a bit rich

Letter from the Sunday Times, 14th January 2018

The State Government late this week reversed its decision to close the School of the Air, and these letters are in response to readers last week calling for Gina Rinehart to fund SOTA.

I was disappointed to read some of the letters directed at Gina Rinehart’s attack on the Government re School of the Air cuts (Your Say, Jan 7).

A few facts: she’s already the nation’s highest private taxpayer, she supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service, she sponsors our Olympic athletes, contributes to numerous charities and runs a program which spends millions providing gifts for country folk who have to stay in hospitals. Most of her charity work is done in a low-key manner but people in rural WA know what she does. And she employs hundreds of people.
