The Karratha Leisureplex hosted 164 swimmers from 12 clubs across the North West last weekend in the annual two-day Hancock Prospecting Pilbara Swimming Championships.
After fierce competition and some record-breaking timings, the winners were announced at the end of the event.
Broome Barracudas emerged as the 2025 club champions, finishing on top with 1144 points.
Hosts Karratha Swim Club followed closely in second on 1063 points.
Exmouth Swim Club secured third place with 1021 points.
In the Handicap Champion standings, Exmouth claimed a convincing victory with 1393 points.
Karratha placed second on 904.
Broome rounded out the top three with 798.
Head coach at Karratha Swim Club Briana Crisp said even a blackout couldn’t stop the swimmers from the north from putting up personal-bests and state qualifying times, and developing new friendships.
“The North West swimming community came together from Carnarvon to Broome over the weekend, showcasing the true spirit of teamwork and collaboration, not just in the pool but on deck,” she said.
“This event is only made possible with 12 clubs banding together for the best interests of the swimmers.”
Swimmers were treated to an inspiring visit from rising Western Australian star Tex Cross, who spoke about his journey through the sport.
Cross, a member of the Highlanders Swimming Club, is quickly making national headlines.
At just 18, he recently smashed a 33-year-old State record in the 400m freestyle.
His achievements this year also include selection for the 2025 Australian Junior Dolphins team, earning a coveted WAIS scholarship, and being named 2025 Age Swimmer of the Year.
