The celebrations never last long in swimming. Given a night off to party hard in Japan after dominating the world championships, Australia’s swimmers were also given a reminder that the hard work will start all over again once they get home. After finishing the championships as the number one team in the world – winning 13 gold medals and a record 25 in total – the Dolphins deserved their chance to let their hair down. And they sure did that, spotted kicking up their heels at some of the hottest night clubs in Fukuoka on Sunday. They had every reason to kick up their heels after eight days of intense competition because their performances – which included five world records – were exceptional.

Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) Chief Executive Officer Greg Sam said the $4 million boost for NSW comes at a “challenging” time in its history as the RFDS had played a critical role delivering essential healthcare and more than 32,000 Covid vaccinations to remote and vulnerable communities during the pandemic“. Since then, the RFDS has continued to deliver high quality care to rural and remote NSW communities, whilst navigating increasingly difficult economic conditions and rising costs,” Mr Sam said.The $4 million donation in Queensland will contribute to the fit-out of a new Beechcraft King Air 360 aircraft and operations at its Brisbane base which is about to be redeveloped. The Rinehart Medical Foundation also provided a critical $6 million donation to the RFDS at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The contribution follows Mrs Rinehart’s $5 million gift last week to the Sydney Childrens’ Hospitals Foundation.

It was an historic day at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on Saturday when more than 150 of Queensland’s best young swimmers made a splash – daring to dream of 2032 and representing Australia at a home Games. The occasion was Swimming Queensland’s official launch of a long-term swimmer and coach development squad partnership with Australian mining giant Hancock Prospecting. The partnership will foster the development of the next generation of Queensland, Australian and Olympic and Paralympic champions inspired by a proud history of greats who have taken their own golden path to Olympic and Paralympic glory.
