Swimming Queensland is proud of its long-standing partnership with Mrs Gina Rinehart and Hancock Prospecting and finds the negative characterisation in some quarters of Mrs Rinehart’s new sponsorship of another sport regrettable. Mrs Rinehart’s sponsorship of swimming spans more than three decades, ranging from swimming clinics for indigenous children in remote communities through to helping our high performance swimmers pursue their sporting dreams.

The support that Hancock Prospecting and Mrs Rinehart AO provides to Rowing Australia (RA) and most importantly its athletes, dating back to 2015, has been a game changer for our sport. RA is proud that it provides equitable athlete support across its programs.

Interview of Ian Henschke, chief advocate, National Seniors Australia & Cassandra Winzar, Senior Economist at CEDA and author of Duty of Care: Meeting the Aged Care Workforce Challenge. As the aged care worker shortage worsens, one suggestion is to make it easier for pensioners to work more hours, in the hope that they’ll consider jobs in aged care.

With Australian farms and businesses desperate for workers, Independent MP Rebekha Sharkie is urging the federal government to make it possible for people on the age pension to work without losing much of their benefit.

Perhaps the single best option for tackling these issues is to provide an unlimited work bonus which would allow pensioners to earn as much as they want from work and just pay income tax like everyone else. This is not to suggest a universal pension — eligibility would still be subject to an assets test and other income tests — but to give pensioners greater freedom to work if they choose to. It will give greater freedom and prosperity to pensioners who choose to work, it will increase revenue from the tax on additional income earned, and it will provide immediate relief to businesses across Australia struggling with worker shortages.

Tracks We Share is an introduction to the Aboriginal artists and art centres of the Pilbara, an ancient and beautiful region spanning over 500,000 square kilometres of Australia’s North West. Though the Pilbara is primarily associated with the resources industry in the national consciousness, Tracks We Share showcases its richness as an art-making centre. The exhibition highlights some of the most innovative contemporary artists working in the region today and pays tribute to several iconic painters who helped build its art scene over the past two decades.
