Letters | Rethink income limits
Letter by Lawry Aarons, Morley courtesy of The West Australian.
Current laws allow pensioners to earn only $135 a week before their pension is affected.
Why lock in low standards of living of $450 a week maximum, before rent, if applicable, to older Australians who have no motivation to work because of this ridiculous law?
A few months work, or whenever offered, could pay for a rooftop solar system, holiday or upgraded car.
Gina Rinehart is spot on with her comments about this issue..
Even renting a room in their home for some extra spending money affects pensioners and I hear that many go and sit in the shopping centres on hot afternoons as they can’t afford to run their air-conditioners.
